National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women

December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada. Established in 1991 by the Parliament of Canada, this day marks the anniversary of the murders in 1989 of 14 young women at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal. The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women will hold the annual Montreal Massacre Memorial Service on Wednesday, December 6 at 12 noon in Memorial Hall at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown. The guest speaker at this year's service will UPEI's Director of Student Affairs Treena Smith who will discuss "Bringing in the Bystander".

UPEI will observe the day by lowering the flags in front of Kelley Memorial Building and at UPEI Alumni Canada Games Place to half-mast.
