People
This past summer, UPEI had the great pleasure of sending six students to our new partner school, Dankook University (DKU), South Korea. These students—Maggie, Kelsie, Lindsay, Brett, Peter, and Chris—all taught conversational English to small groups of DKU Korean students for the first three weeks under a very popular international program known as the English Village.
About one hundred other students from American, Canadian, British, Australian, and German universities also participated in this special program with generous hospitality and financial support. UPEI students all appreciated this teaching experience while enjoying various field trips and Korean-international cultural activities.
Upon completion of the English Village Program, our students and others were also very pleased to have successfully completed an additional four weeks of academic study taught in English (and Korean if necessary) by DKU professors as well as invited international professors including our very own, Dr. Edward Chung (Religious Studies and Asian Studies). This was indeed a wonderfully unique and pleasant experience of international teaching, learning, mentorship, and friendship—the first of its kind for UPEI students. We look forward to the continued success of this International Summer School in the years to come! UPEI is also welcoming students from DKU to UPEI for the Fall 2013 semester.
