AVC welcomes 70 students to Vet Camp

UPEI's Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) will open its doors to over 70 aspiring veterinarians and animal lovers from across Canada and the United States next week. Experts in veterinary medicine will be wowing kids during the third annual summer vet camp, July 23-27.

Observing a surgery, identifying cells under microscope and learning about dog behaviour are just a few of the activities the students in grades seven, eight and nine will experience. Whether it's a student who is considering a career as a veterinarian or one who loves animals and science, vet campers will get to take advantage of the expertise of AVC faculty, staff and students and enjoy a hands-on learning experience.

Veterinary students will fill the role of camp counsellors and AVC faculty and staff will lead sessions including surgery; anatomy; animal welfare; wildlife; aquaculture; ophthalmology; alternative medicine; and large and small animal medicine. Exciting field trips to horse and dairy farms will complement the week spent on the UPEI campus.

UPEI also offers popular sports day camps since 1979. Each summer, more than 600 children participate in the basketball, fun and fitness, volleyball and soccer camps.
