Prince Edward Island Teachers' Federation (PEITF) Workload/Worklife Study

In 2002 a study for the PEITF (Belliveau, Liu & Murphy) reported on the workload of PEI teachers.  Researchers at UPEI (Dr. Ron MacDonald, Dr. Ray Doiron, Dr. Khym Goslin, Dr. Sean Wiebe, and Mr Craig MacDonald) are again conducting research in the area, with an added focus on worklife.  Findings from this study were reported at the annual PEI Teachers' Conference, October 2010.

To gain a full picture of the workload and worklife of PEI teachers, researchers collected Island teachers’ stories in a narrative inquiry, conducted focus-group interviews with members of the PEITF Board of Governors, asked 45 teachers (selected at random) to log daily professional activities, and administered a survey of all members of the PEITF.
