In recent times, the scholarly publishing landscape has been dominated more by business mergers and high subscription costs than the core goals of promoting intellectual discourse and knowledge creation. The Open Access movement has evolved over the last decade to address some of these issues and attempt to provide a more open and accessible scholarly landscape. This session, led by UPEI University Librarian Mark Leggott, will provide an overview of open access and encourage discussion of the options for individual scholars and institutions in responding to the challenges and opportunities.
