In an effort to support staff and faculty’s desire to volunteer at the 2009 Canada Games, UPEI's Senior Management Group approved a Canada Games Volunteer Policy. UPEI will match up to 15 hours of volunteer time off, provided the following conditions are met:
● Faculty and staff must be accredited by Canada Games and volunteer a minimum of 7.5 hours of their own time (up to a maximum of 15 hours) to qualify for equal paid time off to volunteer during the Canada Games;
● The volunteer work must occur between 30 days prior to the commencement of Canada Games and the day after the closing ceremony;
● A leave form should be completed, approved, and forwarded to the Human Resources Department, supported by a copy of the employee’s volunteer work schedule provided by Canada Games
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Debbie Mckie in Human Resources at (902) 566-0605.

Following are some examples of how the policy might work for you!
Example 1
Julie volunteers 2 hours every evening for 7 days during the Games (14 hours). Julie can take 14 hours out of her work week to volunteer for the Games without having to use any vacation time (upon supervisory approval).
Example 2
Matt would like to take time off to be part of the action by volunteering on campus the week of the games. His supervisor approves 15 hours of vacation time on Monday and Tuesday, then on Wednesday and Thursday he get gets paid his regular salary (15 hours) to volunteer (upon supervisory approval).
Example 3
Leading up to the Games, there are two Saturdays when Jim decides to help out for 5 hours each day. He is then permitted to take 10 hours off work to volunteer again before the games have even started (upon supervisory approval).
AND REMEMBER: If you volunteer a minimum of 15 hours in total, you will receive a Canada Games shirt and jacket! To sign up, go online or come to our Games Day May 22.
