Where are the Games being held during the first week?

Competition venues are located all across the Island, with the Opening Ceremonies at Credit Union Place in Summerside and the Athletes Village in Slemon Park.

How can I get tickets?

What do Canada Games volunteers receive?

Volunteers who put in a minimum of 15 hours receive a Canada Games golf shirt and jacket. And a whole lot of appreciation from the athletes, coaches, mission staff, and Canada Games organizers! And be sure to check out UPEI's volunteer policy.

How do I sign up to volunteer?

Go online and sign up! You’ll need to get an RCMP background check (free of charge). The Games needs approximately 6,000 volunteers, and they’re just a little over half-way there! Check out the University of Prince Edward Island Faculty and Staff Volunteer Commitment to the 2009 Canada Games policy to see how UPEI will match some of your time if you volunteer!

Should I take my summer vacation during the Games?

Campus will be a hub of activity during the games, with the University open for business as usual. Check with your department to have vacation time approved during that time, or consider volunteering so you can join in the spirit of the Games. Check out the University of Prince Edward Island Faculty and Staff Volunteer Commitment to the 2009 Canada Games policy! The Games needs volunteers, and this may be the perfect opportunity to get involved!

Where will I park during the Games?

Parking Lot B is reserved for UPEI personnel. Reserved parking is available adjacent to Lot B, AVC parking lots, and metered lots at Murphy, Kelley, and McDougall Hall. See the green spaces on the map.

What will security be like?

Security will be managed by UPEI and Canada Games security staff. In case of emergency on campus, please dial 9-911.

Will I be able to get onto campus easily and find a parking space?

UPEI has entered into a Parking and Traffic Plan with the Canada Games Host Society for the period August 15-29, 2009. Because UPEI is primarily affected during the second week, this plan concentrates specifically on the period August 22-29.

What buildings are being used, and for what purposes? Do some areas have restricted access?

Almost every building on campus will be involved in the Canada Games, with bookings in most classrooms and conference rooms.

The student residences will be transformed into an Athletes' Village for the second week of the Games, so access to the residences and the Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall will be restricted to athletes and coaches.

CARI, Alumni Canada Games Place, and MacAdam Field will be restricted to those with tickets for events.
