Honours and Research Opportunities

HONOURS, RESEARCH, and JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

Chemistry of functional foods and their role in health.

A research project for a senior undergraduate research student in Biology (Bio 440 or Bio 490) has just come up, working with Dr Sweeney-Nixon (Biology) and Dr Fofana (Agriculture & Agri-Foods Canada), September 2009 - April 2010. The research is in the area of chemistry of functional foods and their role in health. This student project is designed for 4th year Biology majors with lab research skills and interest in health sciences, nutrition, biochemistry and agriculture.

Undergrad research position available in plant evolutionary ecology.

An opportunity is available to join the Samis lab in plant evolutionary ecology research on coastal dune or salt marsh plants. I am interested in asking what the ecological (e.g. climate, habitat), evolutionary (e.g. gene flow, selection) and genetic (genetic variation) factors are that determine where species do and do not occur. Plants growing in these environments offer a great opportunity to ask these questions because they are restricted to a spatially narrow, but ecologically variable distribution where a variety of these factors may be important
