Distinguished Alumni Awards

The University of Prince Edward Island presents Distinguished Alumni Awards annually to four individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to an area of service to humanity.

The award is the highest honour presented by the Alumni Association and is presented to:

- a graduate of St. Dunstan's University
- a graduate of Prince of Wales College
- a graduate of UPEI
- a graduate of Atlantic Veterinary College

One of this year's recipients was Dr. Lynne O'Sullivan, AVC Class of 1998.

A call for nominations usually takes place in July each year.

Atlantic Award of Excellence in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Care

The Atlantic Award of Excellence in Veterinary Medicine and Animal Care was established in 2005. Presented annually, the Award recognizes excellence in veterinary medicine and animal care in Atlantic Canada.

Past recipients include Dr. Ross K. Ainslie (2005), Dr. Robert Curtis (2006), Dr. George Irving (2007), Dr. Bud Ings (2009), and Dr. Hubert Bennett (2010).

A call for nominations will be issued in June each year.

Honourable Eugene F. Whelan Green Hat Award

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) established the Honourable Eugene F. Whelan Green Hat Award in 2000 to pay tribute to individuals who have had a significant and positive impact on the Atlantic Veterinary College and veterinary medicine in Atlantic Canada. This award represents the highest honour bestowed by AVC at UPEI and is viewed as a lasting tribute to those who have played a key role in establishing the Atlantic Veterinary College.

The award is presented annually at UPEI's Founders' Day in September.
