Final: 5-0 W

UPEI moved to 9-1-0 with a convincing 5-0 victory, effectively ending MUN’s playoffs hopes on Saturday afternoon.

Andrea Archibald came off the bench to score two goals with Jen MacLeod, Emilie Pelletier, and Katie O’Brien contributing single tallies for the 1st place Panthers.

Archibald opened the scoring on a penalty shot in the 31st minute after Panther midfielder Jenna Jo MacDonald was taken down in the box.  O’Brien’s 1st AUS goal came in extra time following a scramble  around the MUN net where UPEI had 3 quality chances in a five second span.

O’Brien’s goal took the life out of MUN as UPEI dominated the 2nd half.

The Panthers had five chances in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half, finishing with 18 for the half. Two shots rung of the crossbar by Chelsie McInnis , a couple of fine saves and some poor luck on a couple of opportunities kept the final score from approaching double digits.

MUNs’ only chance came after Panther keeper Channelle Roy was whistled for handling the ball outside the box. A fine save off the ensuing free kick from the top of the box preserved the shutout.

Hannah Roche saw her 1st action of the season while Andrea Yr Gustavsdottir missed her 2nd consecutive game as she recovers from a lower leg injury.
