The 7th ranked UPEI Womens’ soccer Panthers are intent on strengthening their grip hold on 1st place this weekend as they host MUN(2-4-3) and Acadia(0-6-3) on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 pm.
UPEI is looking for Cheslie McInnis to continue her recent strong play. McInnis, among the league leaders in goals, has been creating many chances for herself and her teammates over the last month. Few defenders have been able to match McInnis’ ability to make quick turns and run all day.
MUN, winless on the road this season, need points as they attempt to chase down St.FX for the final available playoff spot. On paper, UPEI will be favourites in both games this weekend
”MUN will not be outworked”, says coach Mike Redmond.” They have the toughest schedule in the league and battle hard every game. The games aren’t played on paper, we need to be ready”.
UPEI is expected to experiment again this weekend with line-ups as injuries have the coaching staff busy settling on the best combinations. Veteran Hannah Roche could see her 1st action of the season, while Andrea Yr Gustavsdottir is questionable for the weekend.
