The 6th ranked UPEI Women’s soccer Panthers travel to Wolfville on Friday to play winless Acadia looking to solidify their hold on 1st place as the league enters its final weekend of the regular season. The Panthers(10-1-0) and Saint Marys(9-1-1) have secured 1st round byes for the AUS playoffs next weekend in Fredericton.
UPEI downed a determined Axewomen side 1-0 at home last weekend. A similar result this week will give the Panthers their 11th win, last accomplished in the AUS in 2007 by Cape Breton.
“We’re looking forward to the weekend. It’s a final tune-up for the playoffs. We hope to finish on a high note and head to Fredericton as healthy as possible,” noted coach Mike Redmond.
Andrea Yr Gustavsdottir is game ready after missing three matches and is expected to add considerably to the Panther attack this weekend.
UPEI returns home for their final game on Sunday against Mt. Allison where seniors Chelsie McInnis, Andrea Archibald, Hannah Roche and Sara Stewart will be recognized for their contributions to the University. All four are Academic All Canadians and league All-stars
