x-Women defeat Panthers 36-0

CIS 1st ranked SFX defeated the UPEI Panthers 36-0, Saturday afternoon as part of Celebrate UPEI Weekend.   The first 15 minutes of the game was very fast paced and that made for exciting rugby,.  Both teams were holding strong defensively, and offensive pressure was great on both sides. 

  At half the score was 21-0.  Unfortunately for the Panther's, the CIS number one ranked St. FX has that ranking for a reason - namely their speed.  The Panthers missed a couple of very important hits and X literally ran away.

Head Coach Shannon Atkins had this comment, “As a team we met our defensive goals, but we really wanted to put some points on the board.  We are looking forward to playing them again next week-end so we can make some improvements and decrease the deficit of points. .  I am very happy with the improvement of this team, not just since last year, but since training camp just one month ago.  We will continue to improve every week, and, hopefully, make it to AUS Championships this year through our hard work.”

Second year, Vanessa French, was named player of the game for UPEI because of her excellent field coverage.  She is very fit and can get around the field causing trouble wherever she goes.  Former CIS All-Canadian Kaitlin Richard had a stellar performance again this week making hits and going for runs.
