The UPEI Women's Rugby team is far ahead of the last couple seasons with a win today over the Saint Mary's Huskies 12-0 in the first regular season game. The Panthers played host to the Huskies on Saturday afternoon at MacAdam Field.
The Panthers were close in the first 10 minutes but unable to drive over the line but looked strong during the entire half. At the 48 minute, fifth year Rebecca Robison scored the try for the Panthers to go up 5-0. Saint Mary moved the ball down the field well mid way of the half but were unable to score. In the 71st minute, fifth year Jenelle MacKenzie scored her first AUS try after playing the last four years on the UPEI Womens' Hockey team. Fifth year Bailey Harper made the conversion into the wind and helped the Panthers to a 12-0 lead.
First year UPEI player Jill Jeffery was named the Subway Player of the Game.
Just before game time the Panthers honoured former Panther Ashley MacDonald with a plaque and banner.
