The UPEI Women’s Rugby Panthers suffered a loss to Acadia Saturday 19-14 but retain 2nd place in the AUS. The wind was very strong and played a huge factor for both teams.
The Panthers were into the wind first half and the score was 19-7 for Acadia. They snuck in two wide tries just before the dying minutes of the first half.
The Panthers were hoping to have more luck scoring in the second half with the wind at their backs. Although there were many opportunities, they could only cross the line once making the final score 19-14. Atkins said that she was relatively happy with the play in the first half, but expected a little more from them in the second half. They will have an opportunity for redemption at home again next week-end when they host Acadia in the SUBWAY AUS semi-final match this Saturday Oct. 22, game time 2 pm at MacAdam field. The winner of that will advance to the AUS final against St. FX on Friday October 28, 6 pm.
