The UPEI women's rugby Panthers head into their third game undefeated this Saturday, but the X women will be their biggest challenge yet as St. FX, the CIS number one CIS ranked team, is also undefeated.
The Panthers have had a great week of practice with new drills and new plays being introduced. “We are so far ahead of where we were this time last year. This group of girls seems ready for anything the coaches throw at them,” voiced head coach Shannon Atkins. “In the past, we had very little confidence going up against X, but this year they are ready. “
The Panthers have realistic goals and the players are up to the challenge to make StFX play hard for the full 80 mins. Players to watch for this weekend is Keisha Rose, she has been working hard every game and has made some solid hits to stop the opposition in their tracks. Another is rookie rugby player, Janelle MacKenzie; she has three tries in two games and this athlete is always anxious to cross the line. Janelle has played hockey at UPEI for the past four seasons and just made the change back to rugby without playing since high school.
Game time on Saturday is 1 pm with the men’s rugby playing earlier 11 am vs. MtA.
