UPEI women’s rugby Panthers play exhibition games in Quebec

The UPEI women’s rugby team, with new head coach Shannon Atkins, will be heading to the province of Quebec in preparation of the 2010 season. The Panthers will play two exhibition games while away, one on Sunday, September 5 versus the McGill University squad, and then Monday, September 6 against Bishop’s University.

Atkins is looking forward to the opportunity, and says, “Bishop's should be very comparable to us and McGill is only slightly higher in the standings than Bishop’s. This will be a great opportunity to work on our game, see our rookies in action, and play teams outside the Atlantic conference. I think the experience will be a terrific confidence booster and an amazing start to our season.”
The Panthers are fortunate to have captain and fifth year player, Ashley MacIntyre, back this season. “Her experience with the national team, dedication to the sport and wonderful leadership abilities will be great for our team,” commented Atkins.
Also back on the roster are veterans Rebecca Robinson and Bailey Harper, along with former AUS and CIS all-star, Kaitlin Richard. Rookies Kayla Weatherbie and Vanessa French should shine on the field.
