Women's Rugby

4 UPEI Players named AUS All Stars


October 27, 2011 (HALIFAX, N.S.) - Atlantic University Sport is pleased to announce the 2011 women's rugby major award winners and conference all-stars as selected by the conference's four head coaches following the regular season. Third-year StFX athlete Tyson Beukeboom, who plays the number 8 position, has been named the Atlantic University Sport most valuable player for the second consecutive season.

Acadia's Janna Slevinsky, Andrea Lafleur and Kate Amirault each scored a try in the 22-7 win over UPEI.  Erin Beazley kicked two conversion and one penalty kick for 7 points.  For UPEI Alicia MacDonald scored the try and Bailey Harper kicked the conversion.  Acadia now advances to the final vs StFX Friday night.Players of the game were Janna Slevinsky for Acadia and Kaitlin Richard for UPEI.

The 2011 Subway Atlantic University Sport women's rugby playoffs kick-off this weekend in Charlottetown.

The AUS semifinal game will feature the second place UPEI Panthers (3-3) hosting the third place Acadia Axewomen (3-3) this Saturday, October 22nd at 2:00pm.  Read more from The Guardian.

The UPEI Women’s Rugby Panthers suffered a loss to Acadia Saturday 19-14 but retain 2nd place in the AUS.  The wind was very strong and played a huge factor for both teams.

The Panthers cruised in to a 43-12 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies in Women's Rugby action last Saturday.  The score was 17-7 at half.

The UPEI Women's Rugby Panthers head into the second half of the season in second place in the AUS conference.  They will match up against St. FX on Saturday for their homecoming.  The Panthers are dissatisfied with their lack of scoring last week-end and will be looking to put some points on the board against X.

CIS 1st ranked SFX defeated the UPEI Panthers 36-0, Saturday afternoon as part of Celebrate UPEI Weekend.   The first 15 minutes of the game was very fast paced and that made for exciting rugby,.  Both teams were holding strong defensively, and offensive pressure was great on both sides.

The UPEI women's rugby Panthers head into their third game undefeated this Saturday, but the X women will be their biggest challenge yet as St. FX, the CIS number one CIS ranked team, is also undefeated.

The UPEI Women’s Rugby improved their season record to 2-0 with a 29-22 win over Acadia on Sunday in Wolfville. At the beginning of the game Acadia showed they had speed and the Panthers had to change their game plan.
