The UPEI women's hockey team were hoping for a better result in their home opener Saturday afternoon at MacLauchlan Areana. Moncton spoiled that by winning 3-0.
UdeM got on the board at 03:21of the first period with a goal from Marie-M Poirier assisted by Gabrielle Poirier & Manon Lamarre. The second period play was back and forth but again UdeM was able to net one midway from Marika Lacroix (Amelie Lariviere & Jodie Dupere and to now lead 2-0 over the Panthers.
With time about to run out Islander Kaitlyn Gallaway from Genevieve David sealed the game for UdeM with only 25 second left on the clock.
The Panthers outshot UdeM 30-16 with Kathy Desjardins earning the win for Moncton and Kristy Dobson the lose for UPEI. The Panthers are on the road tomorrow when they head to STU for a 2 pm game.
