Final: 2-1 W

The UPEI Panthers and the St. Thomas Lady Tommies headed to Alberton, PEI for an important AUS women’s hockey battle. The Panthers did not disappoint the fans of the west and defeated the Tommies 2-1.

UPEI’s Anja Weisser scored a power play goal in less than 2 minutes of the first period assisted by Kelsey O’Donnell and Janelle MacKenzie. The Panthers took a two goal lead in the second period at the 4:39 mark, with a shorthanded goal from Keirstin Visser assisted by Jamie Lynn Donaldson and hometown captain Amber Gaudette.  The Tommies answered late in the third period at 19:51 when Dani Miller connected with the extra skater on the ice for STU.  Final shots were 21 - 17 for PEI.

Kristy Dobson earned the win in net for the Panthers and for the Tommies, Julia Sharun recorded the lose.

With the win the Panthers move three points ahead of St. Thomas for third position in the AUS and the Tommies slip to fifth, as the Mount Alison Mounties forced U de M to a shoot out to gain a valuable point, moving them into sole possession of fourth.

The Panthers travel to St. FX Wednesday night for an odd mid week game at 7 pm.
