Panthers slip 83-61 vs. UNB

The UPEI Panthers started strong vs. the UNB Reds with a lead as large as seven points mid way of the 2nd quarter before UNB turned the tables and had a strong second half to win 83-61.

The Panthers lead 24-18 after the first ten minutes, and continued playing well until the last two minutes when UNB went on an eight point run to trail only by one at the half, 39-38. The third quarter UNB stepped up their game and scored 24 to UPEI’s 12 and moved into a 62-51 lead.

The last ten minutes the Panthers continued to show pride and played hard but were unable to close the gap and finished 83-61.

 Laura Power netted 14 points to lead the Panthers, with Amy Gough adding 12 points and 7 rebounds.  

Player of the night was UNB’s Claire Colborne who earned 35 points and grabbed 9 rebounds followed by Emma Russell’s 9 rebounds and 12 points.  UNB’s shooting percentage was 43 compared to UPEI’s 32%.

The Panthers take tomorrow to regroup and they host St. FX Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.
