Carly Clarke heads into her third season as the Head Coach of the UPEI Women’s Basketball Program. Originally from Halifax, Carly attended Bishop’s University in Lennoxville, Quebec where she competed with the Gaiters women’s basketball program for five years while earning Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her tenure at Bishop’s, the team earned a QSSF Championship and 5th place finish at the CIS championships in 2004.
Following her playing career, Carly joined the Dalhousie Tigers as an assistant coach for two seasons while completing a Masters in Business Administration. During her time with the Tigers, the team earned a trip to the CIS Championships and knocked off the #1 ranked UBC Thunderbirds en route to a 4th place finish. Prior to being hired by the Panthers, Carly spent a year in Hamilton working with the Canada Basketball’s National Elite Development Academy. The program, which no longer operates, brought in the best athletes from across Canada to train and compete together in preparation for competing with national teams.
In addition to coaching the Panthers, Coach Clarke has spent time over the last two years running several Basketball PEI programs including: U-15 girls provincial team (2010), U-17 girls provincial team (2011), Centre for Performance, and the Superskills Basketball Camp. Most recently, Coach Clarke had the opportunity to head coach the Cadet Women’s National Team. The team of U-16 girls competed at the FIBA America Championships earning a bronze medal and a berth at the u17 World Championships to be held August 17-26, 2012 in the Netherlands.
