Women's Basketball

To say her first two seasons at UPEI were tough,might be an understatement for Panthers head coach Carly Clarke.
Clarke took over a team at the bottom of the league standings, and has slowly been putting pieces together to get them competitive again and it looks like her efforts have started to work.

UPEI Basketball is asking fans WEAR GREEN to the home openers this weekend. Green t-shirts are on sale at the bookstore for just $7, or wear your own green and come out to support the Panthers!!!!

After beating AUS rival UNB last weekend, the women Panthers travel back to New Brunswick for the third time this preseason for a series of scrimmages with Mount Allison university.

Both the men's and women's teams are off to the Don Grant Tournament this weekend.  The women will take part in the six team tournament and the men will play UNB in an exhibition game.  Below is the full schedule and for more on the tournament it self visit the tournament web site.

UPEI is hosting a coaching clinic alongside our preseason Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament next Saturday, October 15th. See below for full details and coach line up.  We have a tremendous line up of coaches scheduled to present and will have athletes on court to demonstrate. Date: Saturday, October 15th.

Women's Basketball

It's back to work for the UPEI women's basketball team this weekend, as the Panthers hit the road to Fredericton to play at the Helen Campbell tournament.  The team will play three games over the course of the weekend after less then a month of practice.

MERIDA, Mexico – Canada’s Cadette Women’s National Team (CWNT) captured the bronze medal at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women with a convincing 53–36 victory over Puerto Rico on Saturday. With the win, the CWNT have secured their spot at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women in the Netherlands. Read more.

The FIBA Americas U16 Championship features the best age-eligible players from the three zones that make up FIBA Americas. Other nations that have qualified to participate in this summer’s tournament are Argentina, Brazil, the United States and Venezuela. Countries from the Central American and Caribbean zones have yet to be decided.
