Women's Basketball

Coach Carly Clarke and the UPEI women`s basketball, picked up their second win of the season 90-83 vs. St.FX Sunday afternoon in Charlottetown.

UPEI lead after the first 10 minutes 20-17 and increased the lead to 42-36 at half.  St. FX would not go down easy and after 30 minutes cut the Panthers lead to one point, 57-56.

The UPEI Panthers started strong vs. the UNB Reds with a lead as large as seven points mid way of the 2nd quarter before UNB turned the tables and had a strong second half to win 83-61.

Sunday afternoon in Halifax, the UPEI Panthers came so close to the win.   The Huskies came from behind to win 76-74.

The Panthers had a slight lead of 15-12 after 10 minutes.

The UPEI Panthers did not get the second half started the way they hoped.  The Saint Mary Huskies defeated the Panthers Saturday night 65-45 in Halifax.

Justine Cooley lead the Huskies with 14 points and the Panthers Laura Power netted 12 points.   The two teams meet again on Sunday at 2pm.

For the UPEI Panthers women’s basketball team, 2012 is a year of new beginnings.

The club returns to action this weekend, taking on the first-place Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax.

Game times are 6 p.m. today and 2 p.m. Sunday.

OTTAWA (CIS) – Canadian Interuniversity Sport announced Thursday that the University of Ottawa and University of Saskatchewan have been selected as hosts of the 2012 CIS women’s basketball East and West regional tournaments, respectively.

Thanks to the support from Rodd's Hotels & Resorts the UPEI women's basketball team will host their 2nd Annual High School Holiday Classic on December 28 and 29, 2011 at the Chi Wan Young Sports Centre.

Sunday afternoon the UPEI Panthers were defeated by the Axewomen 89-56, nearly the same score as the night before. The Panthers high lights were the 2nd and 4th quater where they out scored Acadia 17-14 in the 2nd and drew even in the 4th 22-22. The first and third quarters were strong for the Axewomen. The UPEI Panthers Saturday night at the Chi Wan Young Sport Centre were unable to handle the Acadia Axewomen who went on to win 86-54.  The Axewomen jumped out to an early 27-11 lead and never looked back.
