Dalhousie took advantage of the wind at their back in the first half to eek out a 1-0 win over the UPEI Panthers Saturday.
It was a game of two halves as the gusty winds created headaches for both teams, each time they faced the wind.
It was Dalhousie striker Hamez Afani that did the damage in the 30th minute on a 23-yard free kick that deflected off the head of one of the Panthers and redirected into Timma Kalinowski’s bottom right hand corner, giving him no chance.
UPEI’s best chance came midway through the second half when Jimmie Mayaleh was sent in all alone. Tiger keeper Ben Ur reacted quickly, coming off his line and sprawling in front of Mayaleh’s low shot, to preserve his shutout.
UPEI pressed late into the game, moving players forward but a Tiger strong backline prevented any good penetration by UPEI and preserved the win
