Men's Hockey

 

Dylan Quaile, captain of the UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers, answered some questions for us off ice. Quaile is from Toronto, Ontario, and is taking a Bachelor of Business Administration here at UPEI.

1)    What brought you to UPEI?

“The opportunity to earn a degree and continue to play in one of the most competitive hockey leagues in Canada.”

The UPEI men’s hockey Panthers are ready to get down to business with two home games at MacLauchlan Arena this weekend.

After a month-long break, the Panthers (8-6-0) return to the ice tonight in a matchup against the St. Mary’s Huskies (10-5-1) to start the second half of the Atlantic University Sport season.  Read more from The Guardian.

Chris Desousa’s power-play goal with just over two minutes left in the third period snapped a 3-3 tie and captain Dylan Quaile scored into an empty net in the dying seconds as the UPEI Panthers edged the Saint Mary’s Huskies 5-3 in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action Friday night at MacLauchlan Arena.

Jared Gomes was credited with the game-winning goal at 9:17 of the third period that broke a 3-3 tie, and gave the Panthers a 4-3 win over the Moncton Blue Eagles.  The Atlantic University Sport exhibition men’s hockey game attracted an estimated 350 fans to the Evangeline Recreation Centre.  Read more The Journal Pioneer.

Less than a week ago the Panthers were trailing 3-0 and came back to defeat UdeM 5-3 , Friday night at MacLauchlan Arena Moncton got their revenge winning 4-2.  UdeM now sits 4 points ahead of the Panthers in the AUS standings.

The UPEI Panthers and the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus have many nights come to battle in the AUS with some of the most exciting games.

The AUS has often been considered the toughest division of the CIS and this year is no different with only five points separating first to fifth.

The UPEI Panthers are beginning to make a habit of coming back in AUS Men's Hockey. Saturday night in Moncton, the Panthers trailed 3-0 after the first period but came back to score the next five with 2 in the second and 3 in the third to win 5-3 over UdeM and improve to 8-5.
