Men's Basketball

Charlottetown, PEI (February 7, 2012)—Lorenzo Parker, of the Horton High School Griffins, has committed to attend the University of Prince Edward Island in the fall of 2012. The 6'3” guard has been an all-star or MVP in every tournament that his team has entered this season, and he has scored 40 or more points in several games this year. Parker will be rejoining Coach Tim Kendrick with the Panthers, after having had him as a high school coach for two years in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

Men's Basketball

The UPEI Panthers defeated the Dalhousie Tiger Saturday night 97-73 in front of a large and noisy crowd.

Dalhousie lead after the first quarter 25-21 but that would be short lived as the Panthers outscored the Tigers 32-10 in the second and lead 53-35 at the half. Dalhousie came strong again in the third quarter 30-28 but the Panthers  replied in the fourth 16-8 and finished 97-73.

The UPEI men’s basketball team did not let the delay of their start time distract them from their goal of holding first place of the AUS. They defeated the Memorial Seahawks 100-89 and are four points ahead of second place Acadia.

Head  Coach Tim Kendrick and the UPEI Panthers continued winning Saturday night at the Chi-Wan Sports Centre, 95-77 over the Memorial Seahawks.

All UPEI Basketball alumni are invited to attend, and participate, in special ceremony to introduce new recognition program to honour former student-athletes, coaches and builders who have a contributed significantly to the storied history of basketball at UPEI. The Panther Basketball hosts MUN for a 6:00/8:00 pm double header.

Saturday night in Halifax the UPEI Panthers defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 85-74. With the win UPEI moves into first of the AUS, two points ahead of St. FX. Read more from the Guardian.

1.        What brought you to UPEI?
“I was asked to come to UPEI to play basketball, but that's only part of the reason. The positive feedback I got from others about the Island and the people, really made me comfortable and helped me in my decision to choose UPEI.”

The UPEI Panthers had their revenge Friday night at the Chi-Wan Young Sport Centre over the UNB Reds 99-76 after losing to the Reds just a week earlier. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and held steady for the entire 40 minute winning every quarter. Read more at The Guardian.

The UPEI men’s basketball Panthers earned a four point win Sunday afternoon against the CIS #2 ranked St.FX X-Men.

UPEI who had lost their last three league games came out firing in front a loud crowd lead by the Cage Crew.  The Panthers lead 31-23 after ten minutes.  UPEI did not let off the throttle and grew the lead to 57-39 going into the locker room.

In the last moments of the game it looked like UPEI could come from behind to win, but three trips down the floor and unable to score sealed the game for UNB 80-77, in Fredericton Friday night.
