Men's Basketball

The Panthers came back from 12 down to spread the lead by as much as 25 in the second half, finishing the game with a 91-70 win.

The UPEI Men’s Basketball team were looking for a split on Sunday vs. Saint Mary’s and in the first quarter it looked very possible as the Panthers lead 18-13 and looking very strong.    The Huskies came to life in the second quarter and took the lead at half 34-30.

UPEI struggled to find consistency in the 2nd half, falling by 11 at SMU. SMU came out in the first quarter with an aggressive press, jumping to an early 29-17 lead.

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – UPEI head coach Matthew Davies announced on Tuesday that Laytrell Provo has committed to play basketball for the Panthers beginning in the fall of 2010.

The Panthers were back from Christmas Break as they had two exhibition games this week in Cape Breton.  The Panthers currently sit tied for seventh in the AUS and begin regular season games second half in Halifax with a double header weekend vs. Saint Mary's on January 9 and 10.  They return home on January 16 & 17 to host Memorial. CHARLOTTETOWN, PE Panther head coach Matthew Davies announced Monday that Aaron Robbins has committed to the UPEI Men’s Basketball Program for the 2010-11 season. Robbins will be entering the Faculty of Arts with a focus on History. Robbins is a 6-6, 185-pound forward.

The UPEI Men's Basketball Panthers posted their first win over UNB on Sunday.

The UPEI Panthers lead for almost three full quarters before the UNB Reds pulled ahead to win 101-86,  for their first win of the season.  The difference in the game was fouls. The Panthers racked up a total of 32 team fouls where as UNB had only 17 at the end of the game.

The Panther men (0-3) went into their game on Saturday night missing several
players due to flu related illness and injury, and then watched the Capers
(2-1) open up on a 10-1 run 7:40 into the game.

UPEI was the hottest team in the AUS over the second semester last year; going on a five game winning streak late in the year and being nearly unbeatable at home. With solid recruiting and improvement from within, Coach Matthew Davies hopes the team will make the same sort of run this season.
