The Panthers Field Hockey Team is looking forward to a weekend away in Fredericton, NB. They will take part in this season’s opening tournament on September 26-27, hosted by the University of New Brunswick Reds. The Maritime League includes six competitive teams with the newest addition this year of St. Xavier. Three teams have full varsity status including UPEI, SMU and DAL. All six teams will compete for the Maritime title, and the three varsity teams will also be competing for a spot at the Ontario Championships.
With twelve returning players and four solid rookies, the team is looking stronger than ever.
Also new to the team are Head Coach Sheila Bell and Assistant Coach Charla Currie who coached the PEI Field Hockey Team to a fifth place finish at the 2005 Canada Summer Games in Regina, SK. They bring a world of experience and expertise to the team. The continuing support of Barb Carmichael, the face of Field Hockey PEI, as manager will once again be a great asset to the team.
After two weeks of intense training, early morning practices, coaching, umpiring and fundraising, the team is well bonded and ready to take on their opponents in a five game weekend. UPEI will play on Saturday at 12pm, 2:30pm and 4:10pm, and on Sunday at 8:50am and 11:20am. All games will be played at Chapman Field.
