The 5th game for the Panthers was a 3-0 victory over Acadia. Scoring their second goals for UPEI were Hilary Buckley and rookie, Kari Blanchard, and scoring her third goal of the weekend was Mikaela Ellis.
This season has a number of important changes for UPEI Field Hockey Team. Both head coach, Sheila Bell and assist coach Charla Currie agree that the team has time to develop and work for a championship game because there will be a Championship Tournament with semi finals and a final game which will determine which Atlantic team of the three CIS team will represent them at OUA's. The past three seasons the top ranked team after three tournaments would attend the OUA's, therefore every game was important. Another big change in the game is the new "self pass rule." This rule on turf has added more speed to the game and makes it a totally different game", said manager Barb Carmichael. ”Some of the players played with the new “self pass rule" this summer at the Sr. Nationals in Calgary and also when the team was in Montreal in August. If you stop or turn to get back in play...with this new rule the play is down the field." They need to be quick, and it seems the players are enjoying the change.
The next Atlantic Tournament will be held Oct 2, 3 in Halifax at both DAL and SMU turf fields
