The UPEI Panthers lost 6-0 to the Western Ontario Mustangs in quarter-final action Friday at the Ontario University Athletics field hockey championship.

The UPEI Panthers edged the UNB Red Sticks 1-0 to win the Maritime Field Hockey League championship Sunday on the university’s turf field.
League MVP Mikaela Ellis scored the lone goal just over five minutes into the second half. Freshman keeper Bethany Nicholson earned the shutout.
“It was a really great passing play up the right side,” said Ellis in describing her goal. “I came through the middle and they passed it to me and I managed to get it in.”

UPEI will play host to the six team,  Maritime Field Hockey League Championship on Saturday and Sunday on the UPEI Turf.  Three teams are playing not only for the title but a chance to play in the OUA Championship held at Western next weekend.  The team that finishes the highest between, UPEI, St. Mary’s and Dalhousie will play in Ontario.

 

UPEI Panthers Field Hockey Team returned from their second tournament with two wins, two ties, and one lost. Their record will place them in second spot for the Atlantic Field Hockey Championship this week- end which will be held Oct 17th and 18th at UPEI turf field.

The UPEI Field Hockey team took part on Sunday in the Run for the Cure in support of Breast Cancer Research.

 

The Panthers Field Hockey Team is looking forward to a weekend away in Fredericton, NB. They will take part in this season’s opening tournament on September 26-27, hosted by the University of New Brunswick Reds. The Maritime League includes six competitive teams with the newest addition this year of St. Xavier. Three teams have full varsity status including UPEI, SMU and DAL. All six teams will compete for the Maritime title, and the three varsity teams will also be competing for a spot at the Ontario Championships.
