Wave Athlete of the week ending October 14, 2010 - Roche & Beaton

The UPEI Wave Athletes of the week come from Women’s Soccer and Men’s Swimming for their efforts on the weekend, Tessa Roche & Eric Beaton.

 

Women's Athlete
Tessa Roche with the UPEI womens' soccer team scored three goals this past weekend to help improve the Panthers to 9-0-3 and good enough for a bye in the first round of the Subway AUS Soccer Championship taking place at Acadia.  These added up to her 46th career goal which  improves her record as the all time UPEI most goals scored leader . Roche earned all three goals by the Panthers to defeat the Memorial Sea Hawks on Saturday 1-0 and Sunday 2-0.  Roche is an Academic All Canadian fifth year striker from Charlottetown, PE.
Men's Athlete
Eric Beaton, third year business student  is this weeks’ Male Wave Athlete of the Week.    In the first meet of the year  defending AUS Champion Beaton, stopped the clock at 24.70 seconds placing second. Beaton lead for the whole race only getting out touched at the wall due to a miss timed extension.  The time ranks him 9th in Canada for the 50 Freestyle.  He also placed 5th in the 50 Backstroke event.    Beaton is originally from Charlottetown , and now lives in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.   The Panthers will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to Acadia.
