Athlete of the week ending February 7, 2010

After the 2010 Subway AUS Swimming Championship, the athletes of the week both come from swimming.

Women's Athlete
The Wave Female Athlete of the week is Sydney Morley, from the UPEI Swim team.  She is a first year business student from Calgary, AB. Over the weekend at the 2010 Subway AUS Swimming Championship Sydney swam a life time best in the 50 m backstroke and the 100 m freestyle. Sydney also swam in the 400m and 800m freestyle with a seasonal best.  In addition to her individual swims she swam on all three relay teams.   
Men's Athlete
Eric Beaton, second year business student  is this weeks’ Wave Athlete of the Week.  He became the  first UPEI Swimmer to qualify for the CIS Swimming Championship.  On Saturday night the CARI pool was electrified as Eric touched the wall first to win gold in the 50 m freestyle in a time of 23:74.  Eric also swam a lifetime best in the e 100 m freestyle and 50 m backstroke.  UPEI competed in two relays and Eric swam in both.  Eric will leave next week for the CIS Swimming Championship being held at the University of Toronto. Beaton is originally from Charlottetown , and now lives in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
