Wave Athlete of the Week- Ending February 27, 2010

The Wave Atheltes of the week come from Women's Hockey and Men's Basketball.

Mikaela Ellis and Manock Lual had outstanding weekends for the Panthers.

 

 

Women's Athlete
The Wave Female Athlete of the week is fifth year hockey forward, Mikaela Ellis. Ellis a business student from Sherwood, PEI played with passion and grit on the weekend as she finished out her career in the Subway AUS Women’s Hockey Championship over the weekend.  On Thursday vs. the first ranked UdeM, Ellis scored the Panthers first goal of the game and worked well at both ends of the ice as the Panthers lead 2-1 going into the third before losing 5-2.  With the new pool play format, the Panthers faced STU for their first and the Panthers second of the tournament and lost 5-1.  The CIS Women’s Hockey Championship is being held at SFX on March 11 to March 14. 2010.
Men's Athlete
Manock Lual of the UPEI Men’s Basketball team, a third year Arts student from  Ottawa, Ontario was on fire this past weekend and with his efforts is named the Wave, UPEI Male Athlete of the week.  In the first of two games Lual scored a game high of 29 points and 14 rebounds.  He repeated the performance on Saturday earning 36 more points and taking down 13 rebounds for a total of 65 points over the two day.  Manock moved into 5th for scoring and 1st in rebounds for the AUS and 6th in rebounds for the CIS. The Panthers win on the weekend secured a playoff spot in the Subway AUS Men’s Final 6, taking place in Sydney, NS on March 12-14. Before that the Panthers finish the season at home this Friday night vs.  first place Cape Breton Capers at 8:30 pm at the Chi Wan Young Sports Centre.
