Wave Athletes of the week ending February 5, 2012 - Gough & Gomes

The Wave UPEI Athletes of the week ending February 5, 2012 are men’s hockey Jared Gomes  scoring a hat trick and women’s basketball Amy Gough scoring 17 points.

 

Women's Athlete
The Wave Female Athlete of the week is women’s basketball guard Amy Gough. Despite the Panthers lost on Saturday night against the Dalhousie Tigers 94-75, Gough was outstanding netting 17 points and adding 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a single block and steal. Gough is a second year science student from St. John’s, Newfoundland. The Panthers hit the road this weekend for a game Saturday at CBU and Sunday at St. FX.
Men's Athlete
Jared Gomes of the men’s hockey team is this week’s male athlete of the week. The Panthers defeated Dalhousie 5-2 Friday night and Acadia 6-1 on Saturday.  Friday night in Halifax Gomes notched a hat trick with a shorthanded, power play and even strength goal. Saturday night against the CIS #9 ranked Axemen, Gomes scored a goal and an assist for a five point weekend and stands third in the AUS for points.  The two wins moved the Panthers from 5th to 3rd in the AUS with only 5 five points separating 1st to 5th.  Gomes is a 3rd year business student from Brampton, Ontario.   The Panthers finish regular season play with three games this week, Wednesday night in Moncton, Friday night at MacLauchlan Arena against UNB 7 pm and Saturday 3 pm in Summerside against St. Thomas as part of Scotiabank Hockey Day in P.E.I.
