Lisa Chilton teaches courses in Canadian History, Global History and the history of the Atlantic World. Her research and writing have focused upon British migration within the British Empire, women and gender history, and the reception of immigrants in Canada and in Australia. Her publications include Agents of Empire: British Female Migration to Canada and Australia, 1860s-1930, articles and chapters in multiple journals and edited collections (including “Sex Scandals and Papist Plots: The Mid-Nineteenth-Century World of an Irish Nurse in Quebec,” Journal of Women’s History, which won a Canadian Historical Association article prize in 2016), and a booklet in the Immigration and Ethnicity in Canada Series, titled: Receiving Canada’s Immigrants: The Work of the State Before 1930.
