Vickie Johnston

Meet Vickie Johnston, member of the Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture program's Steering Committee

Vickie Johnston is the Coordinator of the University 100 Program. She teaches courses in Life-Span and Childhood Development in the Department of Psychology, and she teaches Introduction to University Studies as well as Leadership Theory and Professional Practice for the University 100 Program.

Vickie is also a faculty member on the Steering Committee for the UPEI Program in Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture. To this program, she brings thirty years of teaching experience in the Faculty of Arts at UPEI. For the past decade, she has been involved in several First-Year Learning Communities on the UPEI campus. Recently, Vickie developed the Pre-BEd Learning Community. She has given many conference talks on the importance of the First-Year Experience.

Vickie believes that the ACLC Program will enhance the University experience by giving students an opportunity to put theory into practice. ACLC courses will allow students to engage in activities "beyond" the classroom. Vickie particularly likes the fact that the Program will greatly impact students’ work-force preparedness by providing internships, service learning and co-curricular opportunities.

Vickie takes great joy in seeing students "own" their learning. She is passionate about teaching and learning in Higher Education. She is the recipient of a Hessian Excellence in Teaching Award.
